mactooloud is a Mac app made by ByteLights. We try to collect as little as we possibly can, and we never sell your data. This page lays out what we do collect, why, and what your options are.
What we collect
To run your account and your subscription, we hold:
- Account profile — your email address, name (if provided), and any OAuth profile info you supply when signing in (e.g. Google). Held by Clerk, our authentication provider.
- Subscription state — your plan, status, and renewal date. Held in our database (PostgreSQL). Payment is processed by Razorpay — we never see your card details.
- Device identity — the Mac you sign in from registers a device name (e.g. “Krishna's Mac mini”) and a random install identifier. This is how the “one device per subscription” rule is enforced.
What we don't collect
The whole point of mactooloud is to process audio locally on your Mac. So:
- No audio leaves your Mac. The app taps per-app audio output to apply your volume choices, but the audio is mixed locally and never uploaded.
- No browsing or microphone content. Auto-Duck detects whether the microphone is in use (a boolean) to know a call is active — it never captures or transmits audio.
- No app-usage tracking. We don't ship analytics or telemetry from inside the Mac app.
How we use it
- To authenticate you and gate your subscription.
- To bill the right plan and send you receipts (via Razorpay).
- To answer your support emails.
- To check whether a newer mactooloud version is available when the app calls our backend.
We do not use your data to train models, build profiles, or share with advertisers.
Third-party processors
The services that handle your data on our behalf:
- Clerk — authentication (email, name, OAuth identity).
- Razorpay — payment processing (card data never touches us).
- PostgreSQL host (e.g. Supabase or Neon) — subscription + device session storage.
- Hosting provider (e.g. Vercel) — serves this website and the API.
Each has its own privacy practices. Use of mactooloud is subject to theirs as well as ours.
Cookies and local storage
The website uses essential cookies set by Clerk to keep you signed in. The Mac app stores its sign-in token in the macOS Keychain. We don't run third-party tracking cookies.
Data retention
We keep your account and subscription data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (email us — see below), we remove your profile, subscription history, and device sessions within 30 days, except where we must retain financial records by law (typically billing invoices for the legally-required period).
Your rights
You can:
- Ask for a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your account.
- Withdraw consent for any processing that requires it.
Email hello@mactooloud.com and we'll handle it.
Children
mactooloud is not directed at children under 13. If we learn we've collected data from a child under 13, we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update this page and bump the effective date. For substantial changes affecting how your data is processed, we'll also email you.
