Download & open

Drag mactooloud into Applications. No driver to install — the audio engine lives inside the app, not in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL.

On first launch, macOS asks once for System Audio Recording (so mactooloud can tap each app's output). Click Allow. That's it.

No. mactooloud uses macOS 14.4's Process Tap API — no kernel extension, no HAL plugin, no driver in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL. The audio engine lives inside the app and disappears the moment you quit it. Completely different family from BlackHole, BackgroundMusic, and Loopback.
The Process Tap API requires entitlements that aren't available inside the App Store sandbox. We ship via direct download so we can deliver the full feature set; a sandboxed App Store companion may follow later.
Every macOS release shifts CoreAudio property keys. We commit to day-one compatibility on every major release — that's the subscription's moral justification.
